macOS 12.2 gets a better Apple Music app, and you can test it now

With the introduction of macOS Catalina in 2019, Apple finally ended the reign of iTunes by dividing its functionality into dedicated podcast, TV, and music apps. There was only one problem: The new Music app isn’t much different from iTunes, and even the new streaming elements render like web pages rather than natively.

Like 9to5Mac points out, the developers testing a beta of the upcoming macOS Monterey update, 12.2, having spotted an updated version of the Music app that fixes some of these issues. While the iTunes parts of the app remain the same, word is that the Music & TV app now uses native AppKit views instead of web views, which should make everything faster and easier to use when interacting. with streaming services. Searching for music or scrolling through content is where you might notice the biggest difference.

Better yet, you can try it out for yourself if you’re ready to install beta software on your laptop or desktop, as the public beta of 12.2 became available today. If you own one of the newer MacBook Pro laptops and install the beta, you might also notice an improvement in the ProMotion scrolling supported in Safari.

The beta program is open to anyone on Apple’s website, and if you’re not sure whether to get started, we’ve got instructions on how to do it. If you need to back up your software or want to create a separate partition to install it without disturbing your current installation, we’ve got you covered.
