Akamai acquires cybersecurity company Guardicore

Akamai has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Guardicore, a cloud and data center security company.

Guardicore’s micro-segmentation solution minimizes attack surfaces and helps organizations limit user access to authorized applications.

With inter-application communication disabled by default, the spread of malware is dramatically reduced, limiting security threats. In addition to data centers, the solution extends to bare metal, virtual machines and containers.

Guardicore’s micro-segmentation technology will add to Akamai’s broad Zero Trust Security portfolio. The integration will put Akamai in a unique position to provide enterprise-wide protection against threats, including malware and ransomware.

“Akamai currently offers a wide range of innovative and leading Zero Trust security solutions including Web Application Firewall (WAF), Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), Domain Name Firewall (DNS) System) and Secure Web Gateway (SWG), which help prevent attackers and malware on employee devices from accessing corporate infrastructure and applications. But to be secure in today’s world, businesses also need a second layer of defense to block the spread of malware once they gain a foothold in the corporate infrastructure, ” Akamai explained.

GuardCore’s micro-segmentation solution provides deep visibility into application models in data centers and the cloud, enabling businesses to better understand and protect their assets.

The Akamai-Guardicore deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021. Akamai has not disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition. There are reports that Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC was Akamai’s financial advisor in connection with this transaction.

Finally, Akamai is expected to generate between $ 30 million and $ 35 million in revenue from its acquisition of Guardicore in fiscal 2022.

“Guardicore’s mission is to protect businesses from damage caused by breaches, such as ransomware, while protecting critical assets at the heart of the network,” said Pavel Gurvich, co-founder and CEO of Guardicore.

Gurvich added, “The customer is able to reduce risk globally across all products, managing from a single console, compared to many products and machines. My team and I are eager to join Akamai to protect the user and the business. it doesn’t matter what the user is doing or where the end users and workloads are. “
